Modern synagogues face a critical challenge: the professionalization of religious leadership has created passive congregations disconnected from authentic Jewish engagement. Drawing from the success of food cooperative structures, a novel "Jewish Cooperative Society" model could revitalize synagogue participation through mandatory member involvement in key areas including education, life cycle events, worship, administration, and social action. Through qualitative analysis and comparative institutional examination, this research reveals how consensus-based decision-making, rotating leadership positions, and contractually-binding participation requirements could transform synagogue dynamics. The model repositions rabbis from service providers to resource guides while empowering congregants through structured task forces and accountability mechanisms. Structural comparisons between food cooperatives and traditional synagogues demonstrate how cooperative principles could prevent the common devolution from vibrant founding communities into impersonal institutions. While this theoretical framework requires empirical validation, it offers a promising path to strengthen Jewish communal life by restoring individual responsibility and collective engagement to the heart of synagogue operations.
