The Siddur & the Mahzor

What was said about the mahzor when it was published in 2010 applies equally to the siddur: “It stretches us in two directions: it is both more traditional and more contemporary than any previous Conservative mahzor.” And both the mahzor and the siddur contain an extraordinary richness of Jewish wisdom from across the centuries and cultures.

With nearly half a million copies in circulation, these extraordinary books are transforming Jewish worship. Both volumes feature a four-column format: the Hebrew and contemporary English translation are in the center of the page, bordered on one side by a commentary providing historical context and linguistic notes, and on the other side by readings, poetry, and prayers that expand and enrich our relationship to the text.

These books reflect the diversity of Jewish culture and tradition as well as the diversity of contemporary Jewish life, the egalitarian values of the Conservative / Masorti Movement, and the wide array of circumstances—both joyous and painful—that we experience in our lives.
